Use of EN as gérondif
You Know that in France , the present participle of a verb - ant is equivalent to -- ing in English . When used with en (When/while) , it is a verb form call le gérondif, which is referred to as a gerund in English.
En se penchant par la fenêtre on aperçoit la mer.( Leaning out the window one can see the sea.

However , le gérondif is not necessarily used in english equivalent when translated.
Ils sifflent en travaillant- they whistle while work.
